Half Blind Dovetails Lesson
Half blind dovetails are primarily used for cabinet drawer applications.
If you are making drawers with lap joints, nails or screws this is
a must have lesson for you. I will show you step by step how to lay out the
dovetails
and add a (floating) bottom. Multiple pages and loads of color photos
will be included with this lesson.
I have seen many PA German blanket chests
with half blind dovetails as well as
case construction and cornices. With practice you too will be able to use this
joint on any number of projects.
Many early craftsmen were commissioned to build
furniture with no exposed dovetail joints when viewing from the front. A half
blind dovetail joint was usually used
and often times these are the most sought after examples by collectors today.
Cutting this joint by hand is very rewarding and will make you a better
wood worker.
You do not need expensive router jigs. This joint looks infinitely
better when cut by hand.
